What Stays, Even When Things Feel Uncertain

There’s a lot that feels uncertain right now.

You can hear it in the way people talk. Plans that aren’t quite settled. Questions without clear answers. A sense that things are shifting, even if you can’t always see how or where they’ll land. Some of that uncertainty lives out in the world. And some of it is closer in—things you’ve been thinking about, decisions that haven’t been made, conversations that haven’t happened yet. A sense of not quite knowing what comes next.

It’s not always overwhelming. But it’s there.

It can show up in small ways. A hesitation before answering a simple question. A moment where you realize you don’t quite know what you think yet. A conversation that circles something without ever quite landing. A plan that feels less solid than it did before.

And it has a way of pulling your attention forward—toward what might happen, what could change, what still needs to be figured out.

And then, sometimes, something else is there too.

You might be in the middle of your day. Nothing unusual. Nothing resolved. The same questions still present. And yet, for a moment, there’s a kind of steadiness.

Not certainty. Not clarity about what’s coming next. Just a sense that, right now, nothing needs to be settled.

It doesn’t answer anything. It doesn’t solve what’s ahead. The uncertainty doesn’t disappear. But for a moment, there’s a sense that nothing needs to be figured out right now.

You’re still sitting where you are. Still in the same room. Still in the same life. And yet, something feels… settled. Not in the sense that everything is figured out. Just that this moment doesn’t need anything more than it already has.

It might be quiet. It might pass quickly. You might not even think about it until later.

But it happens.

A moment where nothing is resolved… and yet nothing is missing. It’s easy to overlook something like that. It doesn’t stand out. It doesn’t announce itself. And it doesn’t last. But it shows up, even when things feel uncertain.

And you don’t have to create it. You don’t have to push away what you don’t know. You don’t have to settle your thoughts or arrive at an answer. Most things will remain open.

That’s how it is.

But every now and then, right in the middle of not knowing… there’s a moment that doesn’t ask anything from you.

And in that moment… nothing needs to be added, changed, or figured out.
